Working with the planning & development sector

Early ecological surveying is key to the planning and development process, ensuring protected species are taken into account in proposed developments, complying with planning policy and legislation such as the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), the Environment Act 2021, the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981 (as amended) and the Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2017 (as amended).

At aLyne Ecology, we work with clients on residential, commercial and mixed-use developments to support informed designs and decision-making. By assessing factors such as existing habitats, protected species, designated sites and local planning requirements, our experienced ecologists recommend and deliver tailored ecological surveys and reporting to achieve optimal outcomes for both stakeholders and our native wildlife.

How it works

Our experienced ecologists will understand your specific project requirements to recommend appropriate surveys and assessments, providing their expertise as needed throughout the development lifecycle.

Early planning stages

Understanding ecological constraints at the earliest stage helps inform project feasibility and identify any survey requirements before planning begins. Scoping surveys such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA) and Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRAs) provide an initial assessment of your site to shape survey strategies.

Planning and design

As your proposals develop, ecological surveys and assessments provide the evidence needed to support planning applications and inform design decisions. This may include protected species surveys, Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRAs) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments to ensure ecological considerations and mitigation strategies are addressed at an early stage.

Construction and delivery

Our ecological support can continue beyond planning approval to ensure all works are carried out according to planning conditions and environmental legislation. We provide services including Precautionary Method Statements for Biodiversity, Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) and Landscape and Ecological Management Plans (LEMPs) to support project delivery.
