aLyne Ecology Ltd began as the London & South East office of Acorn Ecology, which was established by Sarah Lyne CEnv BSc (Hons) MCIEEM and Sue Searle BSc PGDip MCIEEM in April 2014.
Sarah quickly established a portfolio of loyal clients and the office expanded, moving to a large cabin in Sarah’s garden in Bookham, Surrey near Leatherhead in December 2018.
Sarah took the London & South East office of Acorn Ecology under her own company name of aLyne Ecology Ltd in May 2019, with Martin Roche and Josh Brown as the core team.
In 2023, Lucie Bloomfield joined the team as an Assistant Ecologist, producing surveys for protected species including reptiles, bats and dormice.
Megan Beard joined the team in 2024 as an Assistant Ecologist, using her experience volunteering for the Surrey and Sussex Bat Group and Surrey Dormouse Group to help our clients understand their needs.
In 2025, Charlie Gardiner also joined the team on a permanent basis as a Senior Ecologist, after spending 4 years as a part-time member of our team. His experience in all areas of ecology rounds out our team.
January 2026 saw Tessa Blair join aLyne Ecology Ltd full-time as an Assistant Ecologist, after shadowing with us in October 2025. She brings practical habitat management skills from her time volunteering at the Surrey Wildlife Trust.

The aLyne Ecology HQ
Our office is tucked away in Sarah’s garden in Bookham, Surrey.
It’s here you’ll find our hard-working ecologists, supported by a few furry and feathered colleagues, including dogs, cats and chickens…
Community engagement at aLyne Ecology
We believe strongly in helping our local community to engage with nature, and currently offer our support in a number of ways:
- Working with Elysian, an outside school for young people who have been failed by the mainstream school system, delivering talks and deploying bat and bird boxes in their wooded areas.
- Giving a yearly talk on Ecological Consultancy to ecology module students at the University of Surrey. We will soon be offering student work placements too.
- Offering work placements to year 10 and 11 pupils from local schools, and registering with Unifrog, a platform helping students to find their next steps in life.
